Picture
It can be difficult to find time to work, raise a family and go back to college to finish a degree, especially with tuition always going up.  However, many people are taking advantage of federal grants to help fund their education and study at home.  Many working parents are enrolling in online schools so they still have time to work, be with their family and still get a degree to better their lives.

Federal Grants for Online Education Are ome of the same grants used at regular universities can be used to fund an online degree as well, including:

The Federal Pell Grant - This grant is awarded to students based on their financial need for help to cover the cost of tuition.  Low income students can receive up over $4,700 in help year academic year and the are eligible to receive help for up to 18 semesters. This grant is accepted by 5,400 accredited schools.

Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant - Students who already get the Pell Grant are prioritized to receive this grant, which helps those who are struggling financially.  There are over 4,000 participating colleges who will nominate candidates to receive this grant based on financial need.

Academic Competitiveness Grant - This grant is awarded to students who had outstanding academic achievements in high school and/or their first year of college.  Freshmen and sophomore students are the only ones eligible for this grant and they must have maintained at least a 3.0 GPA to be considered for it.  It awards $750 the first year and $1,300 the second year to students.

National SMART Grant - SMART stands for Science and Math Access to Retain Talent and this grant also supplements the Pell Grant for students from a low income background.  It makes $4,000 a year available to students during there last two academic years who show talent in technology, engineering, math, foreign languages, physical or life sciences.

Federal TEACH Grant
- This grant offers students majoring in education up to $4,000 per year to help pay for their studies.  The student receiving the grant must have been in the 75th percentile on their college entrance exam or keep up a 3.24 GPA.  After graduation, they are required to teach in a low-income school.

An advantage to these grants is that they don't have to be paid back like student loans and they fund online degrees so busy people can get their education.
