Finding Grants to Fund Private Schools

Picture
Most schools in the United States are struggling to provide the curriculum and equipment that teachers need to adequately teach their subjects.  Even private schools need to find ways to increase there budgets to keep up with the demands of teaching their students.  While public schools are budgeted by the states and local communities in which they exist, private schools must depend on donations and tuition to cover their costs.  However, they can also apply for grants to help with their funding.

Raising Money for Schools

Grants from philanthropic organizations and corporations are available to help private schools fund their programs.  Many large corporations donate money for many causes, including helping to fund education.  The American Honda Foundation, an arm of the Honda motor company, donates money to fund education that places an emphasis on science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

Private elementary and secondary schools recognized by the U.S. Department of Education are eligible to receive one of Honda's grants to fund educational organizations.  The grants range from $20,000 to $75,000 and a school can submit an application to receive one of their grants every 12-months.  The American Honda Foundation also allows public institutions to allow for their grant as well.

Grants that are awarded by philanthropic organizations may award grants to private educational institutions in a particular geographic location or across the country.  For instance, the Frank and Lydia Bergen Foundation helps to fund music education without geographic limits, but they give a preference to schools in the New York and New Jersey areas.

Where to Find Grant Information

The Internet is a good resource for private schools needing to find funding as there are many websites that list the types of organizations that have funds for education and that link to their websites.  One of the best websites that I have come across with grant information are the Grant Guys. Schools can search for grants and download applications to help get the funding process started when they go to this institutions websites.

Along with grants for private educational institutions, parents who want to send their child to a private school can also look up scholarship information to help pay for the cost of a private education.  While there doesn't always seem to be enough money to go around to fund education, there are many ways that both private schools and their students can find financial help.  Grants are a large part of the funding that schools and parents can use to their advantage to educate children.
